We all know shadi preps are always in process till the last minute! For most of us, shadi is the shop till you drop kind of an affair. And when it comes to makeup, some end up buying way too much while some struggle with even finding the basics. Today at SHE we’ll help you make a checklist of all the basics you’d want in your makeup kit so that you don’t get overwhelmed when shopping for makeup.
Primers help in making your makeup last longer while treating your problem areas. When choosing a primer, keep your skin type in mind and the problems you want it to target. There’s a wide variety of primers these days from pore-filling primer to colour correcting primers. Make sure you invest in an eye primer as well to keep the shadows from creasing and to help them show more vividly.
When buying a foundation, assess the amount of coverage you need and opt for a formula that suits your skin type. Always opt for foundations that are buildable. Along with the foundation, invest in a BB or a CC cream for days when want a natural coverage.
You don’t need every crazy coloured concealer in your makeup kit. Have a close look at your skin discolorations and buy the colour correctors that you need. No need to buy a green or a lavender concealer when your problem area is dark under eye circles. Opt for a buildable formula that is one to two tones lighter than your skin tone to highlight and a concealer that matches your skin tone to conceal spots and breakouts.
Make sure you have at least 2 powders in your kit: a loose powder to bake and set, and a pressed powder for touch-ups throughout the day. If you are fair-toned opt for a translucent loose powder and if you’re medium to tan skinned, opt for a yellow toned loose powder to brighten up. When buying a pressed powder make sure it matches the colour of your foundation.
There’s no hard and fast rule on how many blushes one should have. However, if you’re thinking to go minimal on blushes then at least make sure you have some sheer satin blushes for just a flush of colour for day time and some buildable and more vivid blushes for night time.
Contour and bronzer
Always remember, the contour should be cool toned so that it creates the illusion of shadows while a bronzer is always warm toned to warm up your complexion. Make sure you invest in both because both of them are equally important.
Who doesn’t love some glow? For the days you want a natural looking glow, opt for a liquid highlighter and sparingly buff it into your skin. You can also intensify the highlighter by layering a powder highlighter on top of your liquid highlighter. Opt for a colour that compliments your skin tone.
hen opting for eye shadows, the best bet is investing in eye shadow palettes rather than single shadows. You can buy as many palettes as you like but the two absolute basic palettes you need includes a neutral to smoky palette and a warm toned palette. Invest in these 2 palettes and trust me you can create almost any look for any occasion.
When it comes to lipsticks, make sure you invest in both liquid and cream lipsticks so that you can vary according to your mood. Make sure to have a bold red colour, some everyday neutrals, a staple pink, a nude that compliments your skin tone and a your-lips-but-better kinda colour.
Do not skip on setting sprays, ever! First and foremost, they make your makeup last longer and secondly they help you get rid of the powdery/cakey look by melting the makeup into your skin, making it look smooth, natural and almost skin-like!
