Having curly hair is definitely a blessing, but can prove to be a curse when it decides to act difficult. Styling curly hair can be downright daunting at times and there have been many moments when it can feel like you and your hairbrush are waging war against your mane which has a life of its own.
If you are sick of waking up daily looking like a bomb went off in your head, or a bird made its nest in it while you were sleeping, just because you forgot to blow-dry it the night before, worry not. The days when you were forced to stick your hair down with a horde of hair-pins in an effort to make it look slightly presentable (but failing miserably) are behind you.
We know curly hair can be temperamental, but it can look glorious when done right. If you want to push those unruly curls into a cute new hairdo, here are five creative ways to get you started:
Use a good curl-cement along with frizz-control serum, pump up your defined curls, and let them go wild, naturally. Top your head with a thick or thin bohemian style hair-band. The band will prevent your curls from frizzing out on your face, and make you look super chic at the same time.
Twist it back!
Take a few strands of hair around your temples and twist them along to the back of your head into a messy and low pony. This look is classy, carefree and cool at the same time, and its simplicity makes it an everyday favorite.
Make it Fishy!
The basic fishtail ponytail is so overdone. You need to upgrade your fishtail into something that people take notice. The trick? Add another braid. Get creative and play around, leave a few wild curls out to show your adventurous side while you’re at it!
Cutesy hair bows are not just a sleek haired girl’s birthright, our curly haired sisters can get them too. It keeps your hair out of your face and your neck, and makes you look different whether you wear it casually or at a party. All you have to do is to weave your hair through a messy bun on your head, which you should wear loose, to add volume. Simply loop your hair through a pony and tie a knot on the center, securing it with a pin and you’re ready to go.
Faux Curly Bob:
A curly haired bob is always glamorous, because of all the cool old Hollywood divas that favored the look. Creating the faux bob is simple, which is why all the celebs are doing it these days. To create your own faux bob, start with wavy, curly or messy-textured hair—depending on how polished you want the result to be. Then, pull all of your strands back into a low, loose pony and secure them in place with elastic bands that match your hair color. Twist the tail and bend in underneath to create a style that resembles a bob haircut, using bobby pins to secure it in place. (You may need a LOT, especially if your hair is thick.) Pull out some strands around your face and you’re ready to go!
These styling tips work great, and are easy to carry out. With these in your arsenal, you will truly mean it when you say, “Curly hair? Don’t Care!”
