He excels at being handsome, and he’s more aware of it than you can possibly know. He’s always dressed to nines and probably envies Barney Stinson’s suit collection from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and follows ‘the bro code’. His hair and skin are on point (in fact, you could definitely learn a thing or two from him) and his shoes are “non-mainstream”. He looks like he could easily work for Abercrombie and Fitch, and he definitely takes it as a compliment.
The Metrosexual man wants to be noticed. He is a hidden diva and doesn’t make excuses about his outward flamboyance. He’s the kind of guy who would never walk out in jeans and scruffy t-shirts. You’d probably find him wearing a polo gym shirt when he’s working out. And he just doesn’t care. He knows he’s pretty and he wants you to know it too.
Keeping up with a Metrosexual man, especially if you’re a down to earth kind of girl can be a bit exhausting but it can be a lot of fun too. He’s the kind of guy that would definitely help you pick out your clothes when you shop , gift you a Marc Jacobs Rose Gold watch because he feels like it’s the best color for your skin tone, or advise you to wear stockings if you try to reach for your tights. Overbearing, yes but it’s sweet at the same time.
For some men, all this upkeep is a bit too much. Sure, they have their few go-to grooming rituals, but anything surpassing that is generally considered excessive and a tad embarrassing. This today, is considered dated thinking. Since excessive self grooming is generally considered a feminine trait, the common “man’s man” generally tries to disassociate himself from such practices. They would be embarrassed to death if they got caught getting a facial or a manicure. This is often a point of contention for some women.
It’s fine if men want to outwardly show big gestures of machismo, but by denouncing all things feminine they are automatically categorized as uncaring, insensitive and a tad misogynistic. And by openly embracing beauty regimens and fashion, the Metrosexual man has perhaps unknowingly gained a huge leg up in his popularity with women, because just by being fashion-conscious and well groomed, he comes across as sensitive, forward thinking and a modern feminist male.
And hence, he wins, just like he intended to all along. White pants, designer sunglasses and all.
