There are hundreds — nay, hundreds of thousands — of beauty products floating around online at Instagram, the mini tutorials aren’t exactly as thorough as we’d like them to be and most of them feature high-end brands that will actually burn a hole in your pocket. As tempting as they may look, it’s not always easy to trust what’s actually good — and what’s clever digital marketing. And that’s exactly what we’re doing at SHE today, a roundup of Instagram hyped products and whether they’re worth the hefty price tag or no.
Farsali 24K Rose Gold Elixir
Farsali’s Rose Gold Elixir is a 24-karat, gold-infused beauty oil that’s rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. The pure 24k Gold flakes absorb right into your skin, leaving your skin naturally glowing and radiant. However, there is no research-backed link to the use of gold flakes and anti-aging or skin enhancing properties. If you have extremely dry (read: flaky) skin and have problems blending your foundation into the skin then this might be a good option, but if you already own an illuminating primer, you might as well do fine without the Rose Gold Elixir. If you have oily skin then stay as far away as you can from this oil, stick to a gel based moisturizer and a blurring/mattifying primer.
Worth the money? Not a bad product overall but potentially not worth the price in our opinion, we’re kinda meh. Check the Rose Gold Elixir for yourself here.
Farsali Unicorn Essence
This pink serum is probably the most tempting thing on Instagram. Farsali’s Unicorn Essence is an innovative water-based, dual purpose serum, which helps protect the skin from free radical damage, while preparing it for makeup application. This one is not ot as hydrating as the rose gold elixir and is specifically designed to work as a base primer for the face, eyes and lips. And since its water based, the combination to oily skin types can actually get away with using a small amount too!
Worth the hefty $54 price tag? Not exactly, but since a little goes a long way you might just splurge on it if you want to, not a necessity though. Get them unicorn tears here.
Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder
If you haven’t heard of the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder then you’re probably living under a rock. The loose powder feels luxuriously dense in the jar but feels incredibly soft and silky on the skin. It goes on evenly, blends effortlessly, is ideal for baking and provides the perfect amount of coverage without adding weight or texture to the skin. And the best part is that it photographs beautifully!
Definitely a cult favorite and trust us when we say it’s worth every penny! Get yours now.
Tarte Under-eye Rescue Patches
Don’t the eye patches look tempting and calming? Well, Tarte’s under-eye rescue patches promise to banish the puffiness and signs of ageing while soothing and hydrating the delicate under-eye area. They leave the under-eye area looking brighter, luminous and less puffy, almost like faking a good night’s sleep! Sadly, the results don’t last permanently but over time, the ingredients inside them will stop the problems from getting worse if not recurring.
Do we think it’s worth it? Well, if you plan on using it on the regular it might get a little pricey. We recommend buying a few for when you have special events to attend or just feel like spoiling yourself a little! Depuff your eyes today.
MS Soho Lip Plump Mask
The 3 Day Lip Plump is meant to replenish your lips with collagen, you leave it on for 20-30 minutes for 3 days. For starters, it does not show a visible difference in the lip size, it only plumps them slightly by seeping collagen into them. We think of it more as a collagen treatment for the lips rather than a plumping treatment. If you have fuller lips already and just want a little oomph to your lips while replenishing them with collagen, this is a great treatment. However if you have thin lips and are expecting them to look like Kylie Jenner’s, this is not the product for you.
Worth the $25? Well, that’s cheaper than getting collagen injected into your lips. But if you’re looking to visibly plump up your lips then you might just skip this mask. Get the collagen boost here.
ABH Dip Brow Pomade
Yes, every drool-worthy eye brow tutorial has this pomade in it. The Pomade resembles something you’d put in your hair – as it is waxy and it sticks to each hair follicle. The product does not look waxy when applied and it dries completely matte for a thoroughly natural effect. Whilst very creamy in texture, the pomade is not too creamy to move around once it is applied to the brow. It is completely waterproof and budge-proof, so once you have it on, it’ll last you all day! It does not transfer whatsoever, even on oily skin!
Worth it? Yes, it is absolutely worth the hype! You will never want to go back to any other eyebrow-defining method after using the pomade. The overall look is fantastic, and it is way too easy to apply to consider using anything else. Change your eye-brow game today.
Iconic London Liquid Illuminator
Described as a goddess glow in a bottle, the popular product allows you to completely customize the finish of your makeup. They’re all over instgram and people have been using it as their highlighters, eye shadows, under their foundation and even mixing it in with their foundation for that goddess glow, this is one heck of a shiny highlighter but you can control the intensity easily because it’s a liquid formula.
Worth the hype? ABSOLUTELY! We’ll rather buy one highlighter that can take us from 1 to 100 on the glow scale rather than buying separate highlighters for different intensities. Also, a little goes a very long way so this will probably last you a lifetime. Get your glow on.
