How to Make 2019 Your Best Year, EVER!

Beginning of the year has different meanings for everyone. For us it means freeing ourselves of failures and disappointments of the past so we can embrace the wonderful possibilities that lie ahead. If you are like us, let’s see how to start over to do things differently this year.

 1. Embrace your journey

Accept life the way it comes and enjoy the good moments, the bad ones and everything in between. There’s nothing wrong in striving and anticipating the next steps of your journey. Tonight, make a list of your positive traits and think about ways to take reins of your ride.

2. Pay it forward

Have a big heart and give to others without expecting anything in return. We all need some help and assistance to maximize our potential. Expand your network by connecting friends or people to help one another and let the good karma come back to you.

3. Create a bucket list

Make a full list of things you want to do in life. The excitement leading up to them will energize you and keep you motivated. Sky diving, bungee jumping, gardening, travelling far and wide or writing a book one day –what’s on your bucket list?

4. Tell them thanks

There’s nothing like acknowledging special people in your life and letting them know what they really mean to you. Don’t wait for birthdays, anniversaries or special occasions; spread happiness and kindness through your words, actions and behaviour.

5. Go for it

Fear, self-doubt and second guessing your abilities hold many people back. This year take a vow to get rid of those troubled feelings that drain your mental strength. It’s okay to question yourself, everyone does, but don’t let negative energy take peace of your mind. Think about the time when you rose to the occasion and give yourself a mental pat on the back.

6. Change your tune

Don’t waste time lamenting how things could have been this way or that way. Take what if and self-doubt out of your life and out of your mind. Rather than moan and groan, learn from your mistakes, accept them, and move on.

7. Track your online time

You might not realize but we actually spend a lot of time on internet and social media. If you are an Apple user, iOS weekly screen time reports should serve as an eye-opener. Don’t blame the foul play; it’s your screen time that shows an average increase each week.

8. Offer to help

We often get too carried away in our lives to look around and notice how our little act of kindness can inspire others and make life more meaningful. Extend your helping hand however and whenever possible, solve that math quiz for your younger sibling, help your parents with technology, set a Facebook account for your grandparent and help them connect with their family and friends, offer help at home/school/work, sky is the limit.

9. Take care of your health

One of the best things you can do for yourself is taking good care of your health. Schedule regular check-ups with your doctor this includes dentist and ophthalmologist visits as well. Don’t wait until it is too late to start taking care of yourself. Talk to your doctor about adopting healthy lifestyle and avoid getting engaged in habits or activities that have the potential to damage your body in any way.

10. Master your mornings

Your mornings set up the pace for the rest of your day. Wake up early and get yourself into the positive mindset with some sort of routine. Be it meditation, morning walk or anything that makes you feel great. Have a healthy breakfast and fuel your body the right way. Powerful morning habits will get you through a productive day.

 11. Looking back

In order to move forward we need to look back. How did 2018 go for you? Think about the highlights of your year, what really made you feel happy. Now make a list of things you could have done to make that even better. You need not to fret over unnecessarily, instead use them as starting points to kick off the new year with an extra zest.

12. Put yourself first

It’s me before everyone else. Yes, you’ve got to fall in love with yourself first. Stop saying yes to everything and putting yourself at the end of the priority list. There’s a reason in-flight safety clearly says, “In case of emergency, place the mask first and then assist your child or other passengers.”

13. Bring in the happiness

While you are working on happiness, list down ten things that you are really looking forward to do this year. It can be things to do, people you want to meet, places to visit, hobbies you want to take, any life amends etc. This will help you set your goals, boost your confidence, and put you in good control of your life.

14. Sleep more

What difference could an extra hour of sleep make in your life? Maybe, quite a lot. When it comes to working hard and accomplishing more, the first thing most people sacrifice is their health, especially their sleep time. Studies however suggest otherwise, sleep loss impairs your cognition, attention, and decision-making abilities. So unplug, sleep more, empower!

15. Eat the frog

Get that uncomfortable frog out of the way, the sooner you can. If you have a daunting task on your to-do list, make sure to complete it first thing in the morning. As Mark Twain said, ‘if it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it First Thing in the Morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the BIGGEST one first.’
